Gutter & Eavestrough Cleaning, Repair & Guards in Toronto & the GTA
Cleaning, repair and protection for the gutters already on your home — clearing blockages, fixing what’s failing, and fitting gutter guards and heater cables. Installing or replacing a gutter system? That’s covered under Soffit, Fascia & Gutters.
Why it matters
Where the water goes
Your gutters have one job: collect the water coming off the roof and move it away from the house. When that stops working, the water doesn’t disappear — it goes somewhere else.
In Toronto and the GTA, gutters take a full year of loading. Spring seeds and pollen, summer storms, autumn leaves, then winter, when standing water in a blocked gutter freezes and thaws repeatedly.
Blocked, damaged or missing gutters send water down the wall and around the foundation instead of away from it. That’s the part homeowners usually notice last.
Service 1 of 3
Gutter Cleaning
Leaves, dirt and accumulated debris are removed from the gutters, and the downspouts are cleaned as part of the same service.
Downspouts matter here. A gutter can look clear from the ground while the downspout below it is packed solid — and water still has nowhere to go. Cleaning both together is standard for us, not an add-on.
Signs it’s time
- Water spilling over the edge during rain instead of draining
- Visible plant growth or debris sitting above the gutter line
- Water running down the exterior wall rather than through the downspout
- Staining or damp patches on the wall below the gutter line
Service 2 of 3
Gutter Repair
Gutters fail at their weak points — the joints, the fasteners holding them up, and the downpipe components that carry water to the ground. We repair those:
- Re-caulking leaking gutter corners and joints
- Replacing internal gutter brackets and hangers where needed
- Repairing or re-supporting sagging gutter sections
- Replacing downpipes
- Replacing elbows and related downpipe components
- Repairing damaged gutter sections where appropriate
Where a section is beyond repair, we can quote replacement as part of the recommended scope.
Gutter & downspout repair
What We Repair
Most eavestrough problems start small: a seam that weeps in heavy rain, a bracket that has worked loose, a downspout that no longer drains. Left alone, they send water down the fascia and siding and into the ground beside your foundation. Here is what our gutter repair and downspout repair work covers across Toronto and the GTA, and how we go about it. See the full list of areas we serve.
Eavestroughs
Sagging or pulling-away eavestroughs
When a gutter dips or separates from the fascia, water pools in the low spot and the extra weight pulls it further away. We re-secure the run with new gutter brackets or hangers at the right spacing, so it carries water again instead of holding it.
Leaking gutter joints and seams
Seams are where a gutter usually gives way first: the sealant dries, splits and starts dripping onto the wall or walkway below. We clean the joint back to bare metal and reseal it with commercial-grade waterproof sealant, so the water stays in the gutter.
Rusted or corroded gutter sections
Surface rust is one thing; a section that is flaking, pitted or letting light through is another. We look at how far the corrosion has spread, repair what can be repaired, and quote replacement for the gutter sections that can’t.
Eavestrough end caps
A loose or unsealed end cap lets water run straight out of the end of the gutter and down the fascia. We refit or replace the cap and seal it with professional-grade waterproof sealant, so the run holds water until it reaches the downspout.
Downspouts
Leaking downspout seams and joints
Downspouts leak where their seams open up and where sections slip apart, often showing as streaks on the wall or water landing in the wrong place. We reseal the seams with professional-grade waterproof sealant and refasten loose joints, so water travels inside the pipe all the way down.
Clogged or blocked downspouts
If a gutter overflows even though it looks clear, the blockage is often lower down. We clear packed leaves, shingle grit and debris out of the downspout and check that water runs freely through it and out the bottom.
Bent, crushed or damaged downspouts
A downspout that has been knocked, crushed or dented restricts the flow and can split along the crease. Where it can be straightened and secured, we do that; where it can’t, we replace the downpipe and any damaged elbows.
Disconnected downspout extensions
When the extension at the foot of a downspout has come off or was left too short, roof water drops right beside the house. We reconnect or replace the extension and point the discharge away from the foundation.
Drainage & protection
Incorrect gutter drainage slope
A gutter needs a gentle fall toward its downspout. If the pitch is off, water stands in the run, collects debris and spills over the front edge. We reset the hangers to restore the slope so the gutter drains the way it should.
Downspout relocation
Sometimes the problem is where the water comes out. If a downspout empties onto a walkway, a patio or the wrong side of a corner, we can move it to a position that works with how your property drains.
Gutter cleaning as part of repair visits
A repair is hard to judge on a gutter full of debris. Where it helps the work, we clean out the gutters and downspouts during the same visit, so we’re repairing clean metal and can see anything else that needs attention.
Gutter guard installation
If leaves and debris keep coming back, we can fit gutter guards, also called leaf guards, over the repaired run so less gets in and the gutters stay clear for longer. The options are set out in the gutter protection section below.
Every eavestrough repair starts with a look at the problem. We inspect your gutters and downspouts on site, explain what we find, and give you upfront pricing before any work begins — no surprises and no pushy upsells. HomeTouch Exterior carries $2 million in liability insurance, and we work throughout Toronto and the GTA.
Service 3 of 3
Gutter Guards
Two options, depending on what’s landing in your gutters.
Choose Your Gutter Protection
Aluminum Leaf Filter Gutter Guard
Durable aluminum gutter protection designed to keep leaves and larger debris out while maintaining proper water flow.
Aluminum Gutter Cover with Stainless Steel Micro-Mesh
Premium gutter protection combining a durable aluminum frame with fine stainless-steel micro-mesh to help keep leaves, pine needles and smaller debris out.
Which option suits your property can depend on the surrounding trees and what tends to collect in your gutters. We’ll go over both when we quote.
Heater Cables for Ice Dams
In a Toronto winter, ice can build up along the roof edge and inside gutters and downspouts, blocking meltwater and letting it back up. We install heater cables to help keep water draining through your gutters and downspouts during the cold months.
- Helps reduce ice buildup in gutters and downspouts
- Helps meltwater keep draining away in winter
- Helps protect the roof edge, fascia and eavestroughs from ice damage

Common questions
Gutter questions, answered
How much does gutter work cost?
Pricing depends on the size, condition, access, materials and scope of work. Request a free quote for an accurate price.
Is eavestrough cleaning the same as gutter cleaning?
Yes. “Eavestrough” and “gutter” refer to the same thing — eavestrough is the more common term in Canada, gutter is used more widely elsewhere. Whichever you call it, it’s the same service.
Are downspouts included in gutter cleaning?
Yes. Downspout cleaning is part of standard gutter cleaning, not a separate charge. Clearing the gutter without clearing the downspout below it doesn’t solve the problem.
How often should gutters be cleaned?
It depends on the trees around the property. Homes with heavy tree cover fill up faster than open lots. Many GTA homeowners have it done in autumn after the leaves drop, and again in spring.
Do gutter guards mean I never need cleaning again?
No. Guards are designed to keep leaves and debris out of the gutter system, and they can reduce how much gets in. They don’t remove the need for periodic inspection or maintenance. We’ll go over what to expect with either option when we quote.
Do you install heater cables for ice dams?
Yes. We install heater cables to help keep meltwater draining through gutters and downspouts in winter, which helps reduce ice buildup along the roof edge. Pricing depends on the property, access and scope of work — request a free quote and we’ll go over it.
Can you repair my gutters, or do I need new ones?
That depends on what’s failing. Leaking joints, loose hangers, sagging runs and damaged downpipes are usually repairable, and that’s what this service covers. Where a gutter system is past repair, replacement is handled through our Soffit, Fascia & Gutters service.
Do I need to be home?
Gutter work is done from outside, so you usually don’t need to be home as long as we can reach every side of the house — for example, through an unlocked side gate. We’ll confirm access with you before the appointment.
When is the best time of year for gutter work?
Autumn, after the leaves have come down, is the most common time for cleaning. Repairs can be done at other times depending on conditions. Send us your details and we’ll advise.
